Plant Sizes

Plugs. When plants are shown as being plugs, this category can cover a wide range of growing cells such as jiffy pots, glue plugs and paper tubes/pots. Plants usually measure approximately 8 to 15cm (3 to 6 inches) from root base to stem tip, although are often larger. Plugs and mini-plugs will need potting on soon after receipt, into 7cm (3 inch) pots, before they can be acclimatised for planting out.

Potted Plants. Sizes are indicated by the diameter of the pot, such as 5cm or 7cm and so on. All potted plants offer fantastic value for money, and have well-developed root systems, which give a head start when planting out.

Bare-root Plants are perennial plants that are field grown and the soul is removed from the roots prior to packing. They are usually despatched in a dormant state during sutumn or sometimes spring, and may appear 'lifeless' but are merely resting whilst vitality is restored in the roots. Plants will come to life later in the spring, once planted and watered.

Pelargonium or Geranium?

The frost-sensitive, summer bedding plants with bright colourful blooms are actually Pelargoniums whilst Geraniums are the hardy border specimens.

In this catalogue we refer to both groups simply as Geraniums, which is how they are both most well known.
