A very useful Clematis, blooming at a time when the garden needs an injection of colour. Delightfully freckled, scented, 7.5cm (3in) flowers clothe the evergreen plants in autumn, and often again in January.

As well as the old favourite, Freckles, there are other interesting cirrhosa forms, which are evergreen and free-flowering. Ourika Valley is hardy with clean, pale yellow, bell-shaped blooms.
